Under 10 Development Squad

Kildare 0-6 SDFL

A great 6-0 win today for the U10 SDFL development squad away in Kilcullen against a very gallant Kildare side. The match was played in a great spirit by both sides, with both sides attacking at pace and
defending with great strength and bravery. The game was played in three twenty minute halves with the SDFL scoring two goals in each halfrespectively. The goals came from Craig Dunne-Quigley (2),James Byrne (2) & Jordan Finn (2).There was some great football played by both sides, with both teams playing a very fluent passing game and playing the ball on the ground and into feet at all times through the match. Unfortunately there had to be a loser on the day and ultimately it was the SDFL's sharper finishing in front of goal that settled the game. All in all though it was a fantastic game that was throughly
enjoyed by the big crowd that turned out to watch it.One thing is for certain the future of both squads is looking very bright with some excellent underage talent on show.

SDFL 4-1 Kingswood 12P

Good early tempo, passing very well, after 5 minutes Shot from Tom Prior was
uncomfortable for the keeper and he spilled the Ball and Craig Brogan was on
hand to slot the ball home. In the 12th minute it became 2. Once again prior
linked up with captain for the night luca Lovic who unleashed from 25 yards
to find the bottom l/h corner in of the upright. 16 minutes in ball switched
from left back Josh Breen into the path of Sean price who sprayed the ball
to Niall O`Leary on the right corner of the 18th yard box and he
instinctively played in overlapping right back Liam Turner who took one
touch and drove the ball across the kingswood keeper in off the left hand
upright to make it three. With 2 minutes left of the first half Lovic found
Brogan on the edge of the 18 yard box and he took one touch and unleashed a
shot in off the cross bar. Kingswood came out fighting in the 2nd half and
pulled back a deserved goal to round of the score 4 - 1. Outstanding
performance on the night goes to Centre Half Kevin Ryan. His performance had
all the attributes the management team are looking for.

Tab  Cup report 2011:

On Bank Holiday Monday May 4th South Dublin deservedly regained the Tab Cup in Ballyowen Park. The opening semi-final draw saw South Dublin paired against the Wicklow league. The lads started brightly and Stephen Hanley opened the scoring with a fine individual goal. However a defensive lapse allowed Wicklow to equalise almost straight away but it wasn't long before Ben Hanrahan put South Dublin into the lead again with a smashing strike. From there until the closing stages South Dublin played some marvellous football, creating many clear cut chances but failed to kill the game off. This seemed to come back to haunt them when Wicklow grabbed a last minute equaliser and the game seemed destined for penalties but in an unbelievable ending Stephen Hanley won the game with the final kick with a bullet from 20 yards.

So South Dublin were through to the final to face Dundalk who overcame Kildare 4-2 and the drama was only really beginning. South Dublin suffered a big blow when both midfielders Alex Murray and Alex Torsfelt were ruled out through injury and we wish both a speedy recovery. This tested  our strength in depth and in fairness the squad of 19 all played a major role in both games. Again South Dublin opened on the front foot and again Stephen Hanley opened the scoring with a classy finish from a terrific Ben Hanrahan cross. Dundalk immediately applied stiff pressure and it took some great last ditch defending from keeper Sean Hyland, Kimolo Ndee and Ross Murphy to keep the lead intact. Soon it would be doubled when a swift counter-attack saw Stephen turn provider to set up Eleanor Ryan-Doyle for a calm finish.

Facing into a stiff breeze was always going to be tough and Dundalk launched a sterling comeback. They reduced the gap with 15 remaining but just as it looked like South Dublin might hold out the last minute jinx struck again as Dundalk forced the game into penalties.

Both sides missed early penalties but after that the quality was amazing for players so young. For South Dublin Craig Canty, Kimolo Ndee, Stephen Hanley and Ben Hanrahan all found the net and when Cian Fox-Walsh scored a sudden-death penalty, Dundalk were very unlucky to see their penalty strike the post and so South Dublin were crowned champions.

The presentation was held in the South Dublin league buildings and SFAI Chairman Mick O'Brien paid tribute to  the improvements in all the leagues, and then presented the 16th Tab Cup to captain Craig Canty.

Many thanks to all the South Dublin committee for organising a wonderful tournament, the fair minded officials and all the players from all the leagues for a fantastic day's entertainment. Thanks also to our parents for their super support throughout the day and also the season in general.

SDFL 6-1 Rep Of Ireland under 15 girls

The SDFL side turned in a fine display in this game against the Internationl girls team. As the players of the League compete to find a place in the Kennedy Cup Squad, David Byrne did his chances no harm with a well taken hat trick. Brandon Lee, Stephen Kenny and Byron Cunningham were the other goal scorers. A rematch will take place on soon in Templeogue.

SDFL 3- 0 North Tipp.

The SDFL played two games aganist North Tipp. last Tuesday and gave the coaches an opportunity to have a look at some new players. Two new players gave a good account of themselves with Stephen Kenny up front and Rudi Kinsella putting in an excellent performance at the back. A good performance overall which also saw David Byrne put SDFL ahead with a well taken strike after some good build up play. The SDFL Lads were well in control and two goals from Stephen Kenny put the game beyond North Tipp. Dylan Byrne again put in an excellent performance and has been our most consistent player to date.

SDFL 1-2 North Tipp.

Playing a second game gave the coaches the opportunity to see all players in the squad play against representative sides. A poor start saw North Tipp. go one up and the SDFL were slow to react. Second half saw the SDFL take control of the game and equalise through Shane Quinn. Some poor finishing and excellent goalkeeping kept the score at 1-1 and a late break caught the SDFL defence napping when we didn't clear our lines and we conceded  a goal to lose 2-1.

NEC 0-1 SDFL (29/4/11)

The SDFL lads opened very brightly against a big and strong NEC side with ace striker Dylan McKeever testing the keeper twice in the first 10 mins. A shot heading for the top corner was clawed away by the keeper, and both players received applaus for their skills. The NEC then began to get back into the game, but the SDFL defence, expertly marshalled by keeper Kevin Creasey stood firm. Then in the 2nd half the South Dublin lads found the break through, Charlie Megan went on a great run and his shot came back of the cross bar for McKeever to prod home. The lads then has several chances to increase their lead, with Issa Badwa playing behind the main striker, posing a real handful for the NEC. However they did have to survive a late onslaught, but they stood firm to claim a deserved win.

NDSL 1-0 SDFL

Ten minutes later the SDFL lads were back in action against a fresh home team, and the small squad was tested to the limits. Their was no shortage of effort but they were forced to defend for long periods and threaten on the break. Charlie Megan was exellent at the back all day and they looked comfortable there, while McKeever had the home defence stretched. But the SDFL switched off for a moment just before half time, and even with a hint of offside they were 1 down. Despite then loosing Capt Sean Brophy with a head injury, they then took the game to their hosts, and it was difficult to say which team was facing into their 2nd hour of football. They also had a a penalty shout dismissed as they continued to press.Hugh Hackett epitomised the charactor of this side, when he sprinted 30 yards to make a fine block and then turned up a few seconds later at the other end to try and force the equaliser. But it was not to be, and the Coaching staff can be very pleased with the development of this side over the season. Well done lads, your improvement is very evident.
